Sustainability
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.
Our commitment is reflected in our ISO 14001:2015 accredited environmental policy, which aligns with the UK Government’s 2008 sustainability strategy. We focus on the economic, social, and environmental impacts of construction, utilising frameworks like BREEAM, CEEQUAL, and the Code for Sustainable Homes to evaluate building performance.
We’re continuously advancing sustainability in our operations and work closely with our supply chain to promote greener practices. In 2023, we measured and reported our carbon emissions for the first time, marking a key milestone in our journey toward Net Zero. We remain focused on continuous improvement as we work towards our Net Zero targets.
For more on our efforts and future plans, view our Carbon Reduction Plan.
Environmental Management
Accredited to ISO 14001:2004, we actively manage our environmental impact through processes like Site Waste Management Plans and collaboration with Zero Waste Scotland. We aim to reduce carbon emissions, with energy-saving initiatives in our offices and site accommodations, including insulation and lighting control systems. We were the first contractor in Scotland to achieve Carbon Trust accreditation.
Materials
We prioritise responsible sourcing and collaborate with designers to select sustainable materials, including those with recycled content, low environmental impact, and end-of-life recyclability. We use FSC/PEFC timber, locally sourced materials, and products that reduce carbon emissions and hazardous substances, adhering to standards like BS EN 15804 and WRAP’s resource efficiency program.
Energy
We utilise renewable energy solutions such as wind turbines, heat recovery systems, solar panels, and rainwater harvesting to minimise environmental impact on projects.
Transport
Our Carbon Plan focuses on reducing CO2 emissions. We manage fuel use through our fleet, replacing vehicles with low-emission alternatives to further reduce our environmental footprint. Marshall Construction is committed to achieving Net Zero by 2050, partnering with Net Zero International to monitor and reduce our carbon footprint.

Quality
At Marshall Construction, quality is central to everything we do. Our commitment to delivering exceptional projects is backed by our ISO 9001:2015 certification, ensuring that we meet the highest standards of quality management.
From initial design to final completion, we adhere to rigorous quality control systems to ensure that every project is delivered on time, within budget, and to the exact specifications required. We collaborate closely with our clients, partners, and supply chain to achieve excellence at every stage, continuously monitoring and improving our practices to exceed expectations and maintain our reputation for reliable, high-quality construction solutions.
Health & Safety
Health & Safety is at the core of our operations, ensuring the prevention of work-related injuries and ill-health.
We actively encourage safe working practices and consult with employees through our OH&S Champions Team to promote collaboration and improve safety standards. The full cooperation of our staff is vital in achieving our goal of maintaining safe and efficient operations.

Community
We are deeply committed to making a positive impact on the communities in which we operate.
Our founder, John Marshall OBE, was awarded an OBE for his dedication to both the construction industry and the community in Clackmannanshire. This legacy continues to shape our community-first approach. We believe in creating local opportunities through our projects, supporting local businesses, and engaging with communities to ensure that our work benefits everyone. Whether through job creation, local procurement, or supporting community initiatives, we strive to leave a lasting, positive legacy in every area we work.
Training
Our training and development strategy is designed to cultivate a highly skilled workforce capable of reaching their full potential while adapting to the evolving needs of both our business and the industry.
We foster a culture of innovation and best practice, encouraging the sharing of knowledge and ideas across all divisions. Collaboration with colleagues is a key element of personal and professional growth, with mentoring and on-the-job learning integral to our approach.

Supply Chain
Our supply chain is integral to our Integrated Management System, accredited to ISO 9001:2008.
We only work with sub-contractors and suppliers registered on our system. All partners undergo an assessment process covering financial viability, quality and health & safety procedures, performance, and previous experience with reference checks.
To apply to join our supply chain please email: mail@marshallconstruction.co.uk
Control
The surveying department manages the system, processes applications, and ensures regular updates. Control measures are monitored through progress meetings and audits using standard documentation like Non-Conformance Reports and financial controls.
Monitoring
We continually monitor supply chain performance, focusing on tender responses, compliance, planning, H&S, quality, and financial matters. Performance evaluations are conducted on completion and reviewed by site managers, senior contracts managers, and the chief buyer. Feedback is gathered, and failure to address issues can lead to removal from our approved list.
