This is the construction of a 74-bedroom Care Home in the Cramond area of Edinburgh.
This is a three-storey building with a basement which housed the staff, kitchen, Laundry, and other ancillary areas.
The upper floors consisted of en-suite bedrooms, lounge, dining rooms and craft room.
Externally there is a car park and main entrance area with extensive landscaped grounds providing leisure and recreation space.
The basement area is generally over the footprint of the building and therefore very close to the site boundary in several locations. This required the installation of temporary sheet piles to form cast in situ concrete retaining walls which required to be waterproofed. A service access was formed into the basement area at the side of the building.
A suspended concrete slab formed the ground floor and provided a base for the three-storey timber frame structure. The building was clad externally with a mix of Precast blockwork, Smooth render, and zinc cladding features around window openings. The roof finish was concrete tiles.
Internally the rooms were decorated with feature walls finished with wallpaper with floor finishes consisting of carpet to rooms and communal areas with vinyl flooring to ensuites and wet areas. The finishes, fixtures and fittings were designed and installed to comply with best practice for Dementia patients including appropriate lighting levels and good contrast between floor and wall surfaces.
The car parking areas were finished with permeable paving with surface water connected to a SUDS tank below the landscaped area.
