This commitment starts with our Apprenticeship scheme that has been established over 20 years and provides a structured scheme to train and introduce young men and women into our tried and tested procedures that enables us to achieve and maintain our high quality standards. Some of today’s senior managers started their careers as Marshall Apprentices and many now form the bedrock of our competent workforce.
Our management team consists of experienced managers in all disciplines, most qualified to degree level and all holding the latest Health & Safety certification relative to their position. Membership of Professional Bodies and a commitment to Continuous Professional Development is encouraged. We provide opportunities to develop skills through the NVQ System with all managers now achieving Level 4 in their field.
Marshall Construction was founded in 1983 by Mr John Marshall, OBE. The company’s first premises were in Moss Road, Tillicoultry where the business grew under Mr Marshalls leadership from a small contracting company working mainly in the domestic market to a General Building Company with an annual turnover of £21m.
Robert Marshall started with Marshall Construction at the age of sixteen as an Apprentice Plasterer. He has worked in various positions in the company throughout his adult life and now has the position of Managing Director, having taken over the ownership & running of the company in 2001. Robert continued to develop the business and embarked upon an expansion and diversification programme that took the company into areas such as house building, major construction, plant and scaffolding. Under Roberts astute leadership and guidance has taken Marshall Construction to a turnover of £41m.
Health & Safety Director
Robbie Cooke joined the company in 1993 after serving in the Royal Navy for twenty years. After a settling in period working in Health & Safety he completed a NEBOSH Diploma and an MBA with the Open University and was then promoted to director with the HR Role as part of his responsibilities.
He is the immediate Past President of the Scottish Building Federation.
Gordon has over 30 years’ experience in business gained in various sectors including Construction, Retail, Property and Auditing Services. This experience allows him to lead the Company’s Finance and Accounting Strategy by controlling the accounting function to ensure that the systems are robust, compliant and support current activities and future growth. In addition he has financial stewardship over the treasury function, insurances and IT. Gordon’s leisure activities include a keen interest in playing Golf and running to ensure he maintains a high level of fitness.
General Building Commercial Director
Derek has been at Marshall Construction for 30 years, gaining a BSc in Quantity Surveying and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He has used his experience to win work, develop and retain a strong client base and support the growth of the General Building Division 6 fold. Prior to joining us he spent 10 years within Local Authority initially training as an analytical estimator, progressing to Chief Estimator which supported 350 operatives within the Direct Labour Organisation. Derek is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and leads a strong team of commercially and customer focused professionals.
General Building Operations Director
Brian has over 30 years’ experience in the Construction Industry. He is a joiner to trade and has managerial experience in most areas of Construction including Foreman, Site Manager, Project Manager and Senior Contracts Manager culminating in his role as Director of the General Building Division of the Company. Brian’s experience will ensure that the Principles of the General Building Division are maintained and developed. He will ensure that we continue to deliver our existing clients with a Quality product, safely on time and within budget and broaden the company’s portfolio with new clients.
